Oregon is widely affected by opioid and methamphetamine use and harms, including overdose and infections (such as hepatitis C) related to injection drug use. Oregon Health Authority has funded organizations around the state to implement the PRIME+ peer program to engage people in need of support and connect them to resources, services, and care. PRIME+ peers work with people who are at risk of or receiving treatment for overdose, infection or other health issues related to substance use. PRIME+ peers engage people who may be out of treatment and who are at varying stages of change, using a harm reduction approach.
